JD's Voter Guide Xenia, Ohio, Greene County, Ohio May 4th Republican

Here is my recommendations for Xenia, Ohio, Greene County, Ohio May 4th Republican Primary Ballot. I'm only including the contested races. I was unable to find much information about the judges. Their websites did not have much substance and I am relying on solely the option of Virgil Vaduva. As always, I welcome anyones else's recommendations, there might be other considerations that I failed to see.

For Auditor of State
*Seth Morgan True conservative fights to lower taxes, listed out the issues he cares about on his website and I agree with his view on all of them.
For Secretary of State
* Sandra O'Brien More conservative of the two options, check out her issues page.

For Representative to Congress (7th District)
* John Mitchel Opposes the Iraq and Afghanistan War. He is a champion of Liberty.

For Judge of the Court Appeals (2nd District)
Mike Hall
* George Reynolds Recommended by Virgil Vaduva

For Member of State Central Committee, Man (10th District)
Joseph Haines
David Kearney
(no recommendation)

For Member of State Central Committee, Woman (10th District)
Ashley Knowlton
Brenda K Lewis
*Cynthia J Bieghler - Tea Party Rep.

For State Representative
*Jarrod Martin Recommended by Virgil Vaduva, 2nd &10th amendment advocate.

For Judge of the Court of Common Pleas
*Mike Buckwalter Recommended by Virgil Vaduva

For County Commissioner
Alan Anderson
*Virgil Vaduva Ron Paul supporter, believes in small limited government, and personal freedom. He strongly opposes Xenia Income tax. He will say no to a lot of the current nonsense in Greene county politics. Virgil is so well spoken, I'll just let you read for yourself why he is running. The following is copied from his election website:

Here is what I pledge to you, should you vote for me as county commissioner:
  1. I will do my best to eliminate or lower tax rates in the county.
  2. I will work to eliminate the bureaucracy which has been creeping in, making it a hassle for people to create businesses, build homes and work in our county.
  3. I will find and promote ways to encourage people to reside in the county rather than seeking ways to leave the county due to high taxes and bureaucracy.
  4. Improve communication with county residents by an improved website and electronic means, and by making the budget, finances and salaries of all county employees more easily accessible to all. Such information should be easily accessible via a well-designed website where residents should not have to ask for it or go to great lengths
    to obtain it.
  5. Lastly, I will only accept a $1 a year salary; it is disgraceful for an elected official to accept $60,000 a year in taxpayers money for sitting in a few meetings each month and signing paperwork.

For County Auditor
*Dick Gould Not endorsed by Luwanna Delaney, our current oppressive auditor. He will demand FAIR and ACCURATE appraisals of your property.

Ohio Issue #1 To Extend the Ohio third Frontier Program by Authorizing the Issuance of Additional General Obligations Bond to Promote Economic Growth
NO No way I'm voting for more debt in our state

Ohio Issue #2 To change the location of the Columbus Casino
No It was not a good idea to grant monopoly privileges to casinos. Even dumber idea to put the longitude and latitude in the Ohio Constitution of said casinos, so no, you are stuck with the dumb law and location.

Local Issue #7 Proposed Municipal Income Tax City of Xenia
NO I'm not against police and fire fighters, but as I understand it, the City of Xenia only needs to raise half a million to pay for the current police and fire coverage, not the 2.5 million that the tax will raise. I don't think the city has been wise with their money. They used tax payer money to fund advertisements for this levy, this is not at all fair. This tax would also put Xenia and one of highest taxed cities in the state. This would put the city of Xenia at a competitive disadvantage for attracting new families and businesses. Why is the city asking me and other families for more money, when city workers get a raise, and while many in the city are taking pay cuts or facing unemployment. I think we should fund the shortage with donations and not through force of taxation.

JD's Voter Guide

The following is my personal recommendation for how to vote for all offices and issues on the ballot in Xenia, OH. Feel free to leave your opinion, perhaps you can educate me and I'll change my mind. I did my best to include the web sites of each candidate, but I was unable in every case to find their site. I did not include the races where a person was running unopposed.

President (Very Important)
  • I'm advocating voting for anyone other than McCain or Obama. Both continue to play Santa Clause trying to buy votes for promises they cannot keep. Both voted for the bailout and both are for an interventionist foreign policy. Both will sink our county into debt and allow the Fed to create money out of thin air. I feel we need to take a stand and vote no to more of the same. Voting for the lesser of two evils in still evil.
Attorney General (Very Important)
  • Robert Ownes in endorsed by the Constitution and Libertarian Parties. I think this position should not be held by a partisan person. Robert Owens would protect our civil liberties and our economic freedom.
Ohio Secretary State Information on the State Ballot issues.
State Issue #1 (yawn)
To provide for earlier filing deadlines for statewide ballot issues
  • JD's Pick - Yes
  • Earlier deadlines make it harder for dumb laws to be voted on? If anyone has another reason to vote yes or no let me know. I'm open to changing my mind on this issue.
State Issue #2 (Important) To authorize the state to issue bonds to continue the clean Ohio program for environmental revitalization and conservation
  • JD's Pick - No
  • Since this is not an emergency, I'll vote no to more debt.
State Issue #3 (Why are we voting on this) To amend the constitution to protect private property rights in ground water lakes and other watercourses.
  • JD's Pick - Yes
  • I'll always vote yes to protect private property rights.
State Issue #4 Withdrawn by the petitioners' committee

State Issue #5 (Very Important) Referendum on legislation make changes to check cashing lending sometimes known as "Payday lending," Fees interest rates and practices.
  • JD's Pick - NO
  • The government should never set interest rates, or keep a database of who borrows what.
State Issue #6 (Very Important) To amend the constitution by initiative petition for a casino near Wilmington in southwest Ohio and distribute to all Ohio Counties a tax on the Casino
  • JD's Pick - NO
  • Ohio constitution should not dictate a monopoly for a casino. This amendment also dictates the location. The amendment would preempt local zoning laws. May also increase crime.
Representative to Congress 7th District (Important).
  • I hate to say this but I'm voting for Austria because he is a republican. We need as many republicans in office to fight with the Democrats. This is a vote for gridlock. He is Endorsed by National Rifle Association (NRA) - "A" rating And Ohio Right to Life
State Senate 10th District
2nd District Court of Appeals (Not sure how important)
Commissioner (Somewhat important)
  • Eddie Baumann is a professor at Cedarville University. I read his website and I like his ideas for the commissioner position. I think the local government needs new people and new ideas.

Commissioner (Somewhat important)
  • I like the idea of having a fiscal conservative at the commissioner position. I also think have a Democratic and a Republican commissioner is a good balance of power. Her Cedarville speech.
Recorder (Needed Position)
  • Eric C Sears (R)
  • Mary Taylor (D)
  • Why do we vote on this position? Maybe we should vote on custodians? I not no clue who is better or worse. Just make sure the properties or recorded on time. Anyone got an opinion on this?
Treasurer (Important)
  • James is the current treasurer, as far as I can tell he is doing a fine job.
State Board of Education 10th District (Important)
  • Jeffrey is a fiscal conversation who thinks school should be controlled locally. He had good things to say about private and home schools. He also did not seam excited about no child left behind.
Xenia Issues

(Very Important)
#20 Xenia Community City School District Income Tax- Bond Issue
4.2 Mills
$132 per year on a 100K house
1/2 % Income Tax Increase
$194 per year on the average family income of 43K

JD's Pick -> NO

  • This is a hard one. Clearly Xenia schools need physical help. If this passes we get about half of the money *free* from the state of Ohio. However, I don't like the location of the new school. I think we should negotiate with the state for a *cheaper* school that we can afford. This is a large tax increase during hard economic times. We need to be careful that the Xenia tax rates do not force people to move out. We don't want to build a school that is half empty.
(Not sure how important)
Greene County Children Services Board Replacement/Increase- Operating
1.5 mills
$48 per year on a 100K house

JD's Pick -> No

  • I don't know how important this service is. If in doubt I'll vote no on a tax increase. If it is important, I'm sure we will get a chance to vote on this tax again.
(I do not really care)
Greene County Greene Memorial Hospital Renewal- Operating
0.5 mills
$16 per year on a 100K house

JD's Pick -> No
  • I think hospitals should not be funded by the government. This is only $16 a year so not a big deal if it passes.

Greene County Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Board Renewal- Operating
3.5 mills
$111 per year on a 100K house

JD's Pick -> NO
  • Again this is not a something that should not be funded by the government.

Greene County Mental Health and Recovery Board Replacement/Increase- Operating
2 mills
$63 per year on a 100K house

JD's Pick -> NO
  • Mental Health needs two taxes?

Who is the Liberal Now?

Are you upside down on your home mortgage? Don't worry John McCain and the government will take care of you. Here is what McCain said last night in the debate:

You know that home values of retirees continues to decline and people are no longer able to afford their mortgage payments. As president of the United States, Alan, I would order the secretary of the treasury to immediately buy up the bad home loan mortgages in America and renegotiate at the new value of those homes -- at the diminished value of those homes and let people be able to make those -- be able to make those payments and stay in their homes.

Is it expensive? Yes. But we all know, my friends, until we stabilize home values in America, we're never going to start turning around and creating jobs and fixing our economy. And we've got to give some trust and confidence back to America.

This is non-sense and completely crazy. Maybe I should fall behind on my mortgage so the government will take care of me. Never mind the fact that the Fed will have the print the money out of thin air to pay for this. Hold on the your hats, we are going to be in for a wild economic ride as long as the government keeps interfering. Between this proposal and Bomb Bomb, Bomb Iran, there is no way I can vote for McCain. (or Obama.) I honestly, do not know which will do more harm to our county. I encourage you to vote 3rd party. I'll have more on this in a later post.

NO $700 Billion Bailout

I digress into politics.... I'll refrain from ranting [too much] about how the United States in sliding into socialism... or the upcoming inflation nightmare. (Oil up $16 today)

I call my congressman's [office] for the first time in my life today. I called to voice my strong opposition over than $700 Billion Bank Bailout. It was quick took less than 5 minutes. The lady took my name and address and she would pass my concern on to the congressman.

Please consider calling your congress person and your 2 two senators.

Phone numbers found here: http://www.congress.org/c...

Tell them ...

1. You will not pay for Wall Street's mistakes.

2. You will not vote for anyone who dares suggest you should pay for Wall Street's mistakes.

Hate Tip to Brian for pointing me to this article about how we become the United States of France.

Stufff Christians Like & This is Zimbabwe

Stufff Christians Like

A friend of mine recommended reading this blog site. It is excellently written, very accurate and brutally honest. Stufff Christians like may very well consume vast amounts of your time as you reflect and relate to the modern American protestant church.

This is Zimbabwe

This blog chronicles the day-to-day struggles of living in Zimbabwe with inflation running about 10 million percent. Warning: The blog does contain very graphic pictures of the political violence gripping Zimbabwe.

What is going on with the Economy?

It looks very much like we are going to see 70's style stagflation soon and perhaps even worse. What is exceedingly frustrating is that we have not been able to learn from our past mistakes.
For the sake a brevity here is what is going on in America. We as a county and individuals are borrowed way beyond what is prudent and what we can repay. Our Federal Reserve refuses to correctly address the problem and we are heading into a full scale inflationary period with high unemployment. What we must understand is that the because of low interest rates the Fed sets, more people borrowed money. Every time we borrow money form the bank, the bank gets to create most of that borrowed money out of thin air. The more money that gets created out of thin air the more price rise. I'm sure you all feel this what trying to budget grocery and gas money. What is really happening is that our dollar is becoming worth less and less. The price of oil has not increased compared to gold. What the Fed does when it lowers interest rates is the *anti*-Robin Hood. That is steeling money from the poor and middle class through inflation to give money through low interest loans to Wall Street. Seniors with CD's are going to see their interest rates drop and at the same time they see their medical bills skyrocket. The middle class is going to see the yearly raises grow less than the cost of living. We are approaching a crisis situation in America, they few of us understand. Ron Paul addressed the Fed today. Listen to what he has to say. What we must realize is that government cannot outsmart to market, we will have to pay for our debts.

a good debate night for Ron Paul

Last night I let my obsessive nature get the best of me. I watched the Republican Debate and follow up last night from 9-midnight. I felt the Ron Paul did exceptionally well despite Fox News effort to dismiss him as an outside wacko. Ron Paul placed 1st in the text message poll by a margin of 15 %-pts out of 8 candidates. Incedently, Sean Hannity was wrong you could only vote once per phone, yeah I tried it. It became clear that the other candidates could no long ignore Ron Paul. Fox News did give him more time to speak than the last debates. Two other factors happened last night that I think had side effects that greatly enhance Ron Paul's chances of winning the republican nomination. Ron Paul hit the nail on the head on his first question. The question was about Fred Thompson. Fred Thompson in now officially in the race. Which does dilute the vote among the 8 other Pro-War candidates. Ron Paul is the only Republican against the war. Mike Huckabee also did very well according to the poll. He thinks that the war in Iraq was a mistake but we need to keep our troops over their to fix what *we broke.* So now with Fred Thompson in the race and Huckabee now joining the ranks of Rudy Giuliani, John McCain ,Mitt Romney. So now we have 5 candidates all fighting for pro-war voters which amount to about 30% of the population or about 75% of Republicans. If split evenly is 15% each. Ron Paul appeals to traditional *Pro-Peace*, non-interventionist Republicans, the young, Libertarians, non-voters and some Democrats. The pieces are falling into place for a Ron Paul Republican nomination. Any one else want to jump in the race and fight for votes among the *big 5*?

Here is another thought for Anti-war, pro civil liberty democrats who really don't care if Hillary, Obama or Edwards wins. If you think the war is immoral and must end then think about hedging your bets and momentary crossing over to the republican side and vote for Ron Paul in the primary? Think about it. If Ron Paul wins the primary no matter happens, even if the democrats happen to lose the election we can bring our troops home. Certainty Ron Paul must be better than Rudy or McCain!? You might even find you agree with a lot of what Ron Paul supports. Indeed Liberty is Popular. Government is not the solution Government is the problem. Watch Ron Paul Highlights.

9/11 Report

I made it through, yes I read the 9/11 commission report. I have to say I not nearly as bored out of my mind as I thought I would be. The book for the most part was very well written and very informative. It is a book that most of us should become familiar with before voting next year. I few things I will remember from the book. The inability of the government to communicate was very problematic and adding more layers of bureaucracy and is not going to help. America's foreign policy of intervention does have unintended consistences. Most importantly Americans by and large are very heroic and we must honor and remember the people who gave their lives to save others that day. Please remember to be in prayer for our nations' leaders and they have very hard choices to make in the next few months.

Democrats

Ok, so I watched part of CNN's Youtube Democratic presidential debate last night on my computer. I guess there are some things I just don't understand. Why if you are opposed to the war in Iraq would you be in favor of a war in Sudan? To me this is like hmm war in Iraq (The evil Republican's war) not going so well... I know let's move the troops to Sudan and see if that war (The benevolent Democrats "peacekeeping") goes any better. I guess it is about the children in Sundan but their are children in Iraq as well. I personally don't follow to logic, but perhaps someone could explain it. I'm open to hearing and understanding new ideas. On a related side note I just checked out the 9/11 Commission report today from the library and I'll report back on what I think about the book.

Our country and World is in much need of prayer. We also must remember that God is in control.

What happened to the Ron Paul Comments?

OK a rare political post.

After the Republican debate on June 5th. CNN put up comments on their political ticker blog about the debate. A VAST (I'm guessing between 80%-90%) percentage of the comments where in favor of Ron Paul. The link URL was

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/06/05/who-won/#comments

However, if you go to this link it redirects to:

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/06/03/who-won/#comments

Which are the comments from the Democratic debate! I verified this from looking at my browser history. View the original comments here.

Ron Paul has a huge following on the internet. At this moment he is the #1 Republican candidate on the facebook poll, and the voted #1 best candidate for nerds on Slashdot. If you have not heard about Ron Paul I challenge you to read what he stands for. There are few that would question his consistency in defending the constitution. He is an open candidate that is not your typical corrupt politician. You would be hard pressed to find any figure in Washington with this record.

He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against regulating the Internet.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Too bad there were not more congressmen and senators with this record.
